ARLINGTON, Texas (Reuters) - An eerie silence fell over Rangers Ballpark on Sunday and it had nothing to do with the fact it was Halloween.
One team, dressed ominously in black and orange, played their part in the annual spooky celebrations by appearing to cast a spell over their opponents.
But it was the wrong team for the Texas baseballing faithful, which included the two former United States presidents, George H.W. Bush and George W Bush, and their wives.
More than 50,000 excited Texans crammed into the stadium hoping to see their team emulate their victory from 24 hours earlier and square the series but they left disappointed.
The Texas manager Ron Washington conceded that the Giants' pitchers had been too good for his team so far in the series and his batters had to find a way to counter them.
"Well, it's certainly been pitching as advertised," he said.
"Those guys pound the strike zone. They've got good stuff. They've got velocity. They can spin the baseball, they can change speeds, and they keep their defense engaged.
"They've done a great job but we've got to figure out some ways to put some runs on the board against them."
The Rangers must now win all the remaining games to capture the series and second baseman Ian Kinsler was just his blunt in his assessment of what was needed.
"It's pretty simple. If you don't score enough runs you're not going to win the game," he said.
"Offensively we know that we're capable of a lot more. We're a talented team, we're capable of scoring the runs pretty quickly.
"If we don't win we go home and there's nothing else to talk about. If we win that game then we can talk about Game six. If we win it we move on."
