TORONTO (Reuters) - The New York Rangers scored a pair of goals 61 seconds apart and held on for a 2-1 victory over Toronto on Thursday to hand the Maple Leafs their first loss in regulation this season.
Ruslan Fedotenko opened the scoring by tapping in a loose puck that laid on the goal line behind Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson late in the first period, and Artem Anisimov extended the lead by tipping a cross-ice pass past Gustavsson at the top of the crease.
Colby Armstrong pounced on a rebound near the midpoint of the third period to draw the Leafs to within one.
Martin Biron made his first start in goal for the Rangers in place of Henrik Lundqvist and turned aside 24 shots for his first win.
The Maple Leafs started the evening as just one of two teams (Nashville) that had not lost in regulation this season, having opened the season with four straight wins, but lost the New York Islanders in overtime on Monday.
