The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Mark Lowe on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right intercostal muscle and recalled pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama from Triple-A Round Rock.

The move is retroactive to June 25.

Lowe pitched three scoreless innings in Monday's 8-2 loss against the Detroit Tigers, which marked the longest outing of his major league career.

On the season, the 29-year-old right-hander sports a 2.30 earned run average with 25 strikeouts over 26 relief appearances.

Tateyama will be making his second stint with the Rangers and went 1-0 with an 11.88 ERA in seven appearances with Texas before being optioned on June 16.
