Osaka, Japan – Rain was the only winner Friday at the Japan Women's Open, as inclement weather forced all four quarterfinal matches to be postponed.
The quarterfinals will take place Saturday and the semifinals are scheduled to follow.
Each of the top four seeds reached the quarterfinals, led by U.S. Open champ Samantha Stosur of Australia and former Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli of France.
The top-seeded Stosur will meet South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers in one of the quarterfinals and the second-seeded Bartoli will take on Japan's Ayumi Morita in another. Stosur captured her first-ever WTA singles at this event two years ago, while Bartoli is trying to earn a berth in the season-ending WTA Championships.
In the other quarterfinal matchups, third-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany will square off against defending Osaka champ Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand and fourth-seeded Czech Petra Cetkovska will play China's Zheng Jie.
This week's champion will take home $37,000.
