Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - American No. 6 seed Sam Querrey earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in the quarterfinals Friday at the Winston-Salem Open, a final hardcourt U.S. Open tune-up.

The 6-foot-6 Querrey fired 10 aces to beat Berankis in a rematch from the previous meeting in the Los Angeles final last year, also won by the American.

Next up for Querrey will be Austrian No. 9 seed Jurgen Melzer, who waited out a rain delay to finish off Russian No. 13 seed Dmitry Tursunov, 6-4, 6-3 on the grounds at Wake Forest University.

Meanwhile, 15th-seeded oft-injured Frenchman Gael Monfils came back to best seventh-seeded fellow former top-10 star, Spanish left-hander Fernando Verdasco, 6-7 (8-10), 6-4, 6-4.

Up next for Monfils will be Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, as the other quarterfinal saw the 10th-seeded Dolgopolov overcome a knuckle injury on his left hand in order to handle Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
