QPR midfielder Shaun Derry had his red card appeal denied Tuesday and will serve a one-match suspension, the English FA announced.

Derry was shown a straight red in the early stages of Sunday's match against Manchester United for a foul on Ashley Young. Replays showed Young was offside on the play, but the appeal for wrongful dismissal was not overturned.

"Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after his claim of wrongful dismissal was rejected by a Regulatory Commission," the FA said.

Derry has played 24 games this season for QPR, but will miss Wednesday's match against Swansea City in league play. QPR is just one place out of the bottom three, but only on goal difference.
