BERKELEY, Calif. – Braxton Miller will not play for No. 4 Ohio State at California because of a sprained ligament in his left knee.
An Ohio State spokesman confirmed the decision about 30 minutes before Saturday's kickoff. Fifth-year senior Kenny Guiton was expected to start in Miller's place.
Miller was in shorts and a T-shirt when the Buckeyes ran onto the field at Memorial Stadium. He injured his knee in Ohio State's 42-7 win over San Diego State last weekend.
Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said earlier this week he was "fairly optimistic" that the junior might play. Instead, Ohio State turned to Guiton — who entered the game 15 of 25 passing for 144 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a backup role.
