Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint- Germain claimed their first victory of the new season on Saturday after easing to a 2-0 victory over Bastia at the Parc des Princes.
PSG stumbled out of the gate in the Ligue 1 opener as Les Parisiens could only manage a 2-2 draw with Reims, but Laurent Blanc's side came flying out of the gate on Saturday as Lucas opened the scoring after 26 minutes.
After the break, the hosts doubled their advantage in the 57th minute when Edinson Cavani got on the end of a free kick from Marco Verratti and ripped it past Bastia goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
The result allows PSG to jump to top of the Ligue 1 table after two matches with four points, while Bastia remains in 13th place after two games with one point.
Also in Ligue 1 on Saturday, Ladislas Douniama struck at the death to hand Guingamp a 1-0 victory against newly-promoted side Lens, while Jordan Veretout and Yeni N'Gbakoto traded first-half goals as Metz and Nantes played to a 1-1 draw.
Ola Toivonen, Mexer and Paul-Georges Ntep all netted a pair of goals a Rennes cruised to a comfortable 6-2 rout of Evian.
Toivonen opened the scoring for the home side after seven minutes, but it canceled out by a goal from Daniel Wass for Evian in the 35th minute.
Rennes then seized control before the break as Mexer struck twice inside the final five minutes of the opening half to give Rennes a 3-1 lead at the break.
Toivonen netted his second goal in the 56th minute and Ntep made it 5-1 in the 76th minute. Wass scored his second of the day for a 5-2 game in the 82nd minute, but the result was never in doubt as Ntep finished his double in stoppage time to complete the rout.
Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro and Wissam Ben Yedder struck in the first half to lead Toulouse to a 2-1 win against Lyon, and in Ligue 1's final fixture of the day, Lorient and Nice played to a scoreless draw.
