Paris, France – PSG continued its spending spree on Thursday as it landed defender Maxwell from Barcelona.
The 30-year-old was presented at a news conference Thursday with sporting director Leonardo claiming that the Brazilian has signed a three-and-a-half year contract. A transfer fee was not disclosed, but it has been reported to be approximately $9 million.
Maxwell becomes manager Carlo Ancelotti's first signing since taking the reigns at PSG. The Italian tactician wants to employ a more attacking style of play and has identified Maxwell as an ideal piece to accomplish this.
"The basis of Brazilian football is attacking [football]," Maxwell said. "It's a part of my game. It's true that Barcelona reached a very high level, but it's Ancelotti who'll decide how PSG plays."
During his time at Camp Nou, Maxwell won one Champions League title as well as two La Liga titles.
