Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Tomas Plekanec scored with 2:30 remaining to break a scoreless tie as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Detroit Red Wings by a 2-0 margin on Monday.

Max Pacioretty added an empty-net goal in the final seconds for the Canadiens, who have won five straight against Detroit. Carey Price made 25 saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

Jimmy Howard stopped 27-of-28 shots for the Red Wings, who have lost three in a row on the heels of a three-game winning streak.

Plekanec beat Howard with a slap shot from the high slot. Howard stopped a shot by Pacioretty and the puck went to the boards where Dale Weise backhanded a pass to Plekanec.

The Red Wings pulled Howard for an extra attacker, but failed to tie things up. Pacioretty's empty-net goal came with 9.4 seconds left.
