The five-car Toyota fleet of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars is just as fast turning right as it is turning left.

That much was obvious in the first of Friday's two rounds Sprint Cup practice at Watkins Glen International, the New York state road course that will host the Cheez-It 355 on Sunday.

Toyotas dominated the session, claiming four of the top five spots.

Martin Truex Jr. was fastest at the 2.45-mile road course, posting a best lap of 126.883 miles per hour in the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota. Thursday night, the team announced Truex had signed a new contract to keep him there through 2018.

Second-fastest was Denny Hamlin in the first of the Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas at 126.343 mph.

The only non-Toyota in the top five was third-place Casey Mears in his Germain Racing Chevrolet.

JGR teammates Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch completed the top five.

During the session, Danica Patrick lost the brakes on her Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet. Fortunately for Patrick, it happened to her in the Bus Stop chicane, where she was able to go straight.

Last week during testing here, Brad Keselowski lost the brakes in his Team Penske Ford and went head-on hard into the Turn 1 barrier.

"I think this is karma for me, watching Brad's interview and thinking maybe he was being a little dramatic," Patrick said after her incident.

The second and final Happy Hour practice is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET today, with qualifying at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
