Pospisil advances in India

Chennai, India (SportsNetwork.com) - Rising Canadian Vasek Pospisil was an opening-round winner Monday at the Chennai Open, a season-opening hardcourt Australian Open tune-up.

The fifth-seeded Pospisil straight-setted British wild card Kyle Edmund 6-3, 7-5 at SDAT Tennis Stadium.

Also on Day 1, Czech Jiri Vesely handled Indian wild card Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 7-5, 6-2, Israeli Dudi Sela downed Slovak Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-2, and Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu leveled American Tim Smyczek 6-4, 6-2.

This week's top seed is Swiss slugger Stanislas Wawrinka, who titled here in 2011 and was the runner-up in 2010.
