FC Porto maintained its first-place position the Portuguese Liga table on Sunday, defeating Academica 2-1 at the Estadio Dragao.

James Rodriguez opened the scoring five minutes after the halftime interval while Joao Moutinho doubled Porto's lead 12 minutes later.

Wilson Eduardo pulled one back for Academica 11 minutes from time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal as the club has lost two straight in league play.

Porto improves to 23 points on the season, tying the club with Benfica for the most points in Portugal's top flight. Porto remains top with a superior goal differential after Benfica topped Rio Ave 1-0 on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Sporting Lisbon earned a 1-0 win over Braga, Olhanense claimed a 1-0 victory over Beira Mar, and Estoril topped Moreirense in a 2-0 victory.

Nacional cruised to a 3-1 win over Vitoria Guimaraes on Saturday while Pacos Ferreira edged Gil Vicente in a 1-0 win on Friday, and Maritimo played to a 1-1 draw with Vitoria Setubal on Monday.
