Tim Tebow has been shaky in his two exhibition games with the New England Patriots.

And it remains to be seen whether he stays with them once the regular season begins. But coach Bill Belichick says the third-string quarterback has taken positive steps in 2½ months with the team.

Most of that progress has come in practice where Tebow has been learning the Patriots' offensive system and working on his technique.

In two preseason games, he's completed just 5 of 19 passes for 54 yards and an interception. He's run 10 times for 61 yards.

The Patriots face the Detroit Lions on Thursday night and the New York Giants a week later. Teams must reduce their rosters to 75 players by Tuesday and to 53 four days after that.
