The Philadelphia Phillies released relief pitcher Chad Durbin on Friday.

Durbin had been signed to a one-year contract that included a club option for 2014 back in late January, his second stint with the franchise. He finished with a 1-0 record and 9.00 earned run average in 16 appearances, including Thursday's one-inning stint during which he gave up three runs on four hits in a 9-2 loss to the Red Sox.

The 35-year-old took the mound for the Phils from 2008-10, going 11-7 with a 3.62 ERA during that span, and was a member of the World Series championship team in 2008.

To fill the spot on the 25-man roster, the Phillies recalled pitcher Joe Savery from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
