The Philadelphia Phillies have placed first baseman Jim Thome on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain.

The move is retroactive to April 29.

The left-handed slugger has just two hits in 12 games this season after signing a one-year deal in November to return to Philadelphia, where he spent three seasons from 2003-05.

Catcher Erik Kratz was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to replace Thome on the active roster. Kratz is hitting .294 with three home runs and nine runs batted in over 14 games with Lehigh Valley this season.
