Phillies pitcher Stumpf suspended 80 games by MLB

NEW YORK (AP) Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Daniel Stumpf has been suspended for 80 games without pay by Major League Baseball after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The suspension was issued Thursday by Commissioner Rob Manfred's office.

Stumpf, a left-handed pitcher in his first major-league season, tested positive for an anabolic steroid used to increase speed and strength. Use of the steroid is a violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension begins immediately for the 25-year-old who has appeared in three games this season.
