German tennis star Andrea Petkovic will be out of action for three months after suffering an ankle injury at the Porsche Grand Prix tournament this week.

The world No. 12 was playing top-ranked Victoria Azarenka on Thursday when she tore ligaments in her right ankle at Porsche Arena. The former top-10 performer just returned to action this week after being sidelined for three months with a lower back injury and a right knee problem.

Petkovic reached the quarterfinals at three of the four Grand Slam events last year, but has already missed this year's Australian Open and is expected to miss the upcoming French Open and Wimbledon events.
