A person familiar with the situation says the New Orleans Saints have cut reserve quarterback Seneca Wallace.

The person spoke to The Associated Press about Monday's release of the 10th-year veteran on condition of anonymity because the Saints have not announced it.

Wallace, whose release was first reported by ESPN, has been competing with Luke McCown to back up Drew Brees. Wallace struggled in his first preseason appearance last Friday against Oakland, completing only three of six passes for 32 yards in his five series leading the offense. He also was intercepted on a tipped pass and fumbled into the end zone, where Oakland recovered for a touchdown.

Wallace also was limited early in camp because of a groin pull and did not play in the Saints' preseason opener.
