DAVIE, Fla. – Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey will begin the season on the Miami Dolphins' 53-man roster, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Saturday.
Pouncey was a candidate to begin the year on the physically unable to perform list, which would have kept him out of the season's first six games. The Dolphins decided not to go that route, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced any roster decisions publicly.
NFL teams had a 4 p.m. Saturday deadline to pare their rosters down to 53 players and the Pouncey decision was among the biggest Miami had to make.
Pouncey has been working his way back from offseason hip surgery, and has said he felt his recovery was going ahead of schedule.
