The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Bill Guerin as player development coach.
Guerin, 40, spent the final two of his 18 NHL seasons with the Penguins, helping them win the 2009 Stanley Cup. He also played for the Devils, Oilers, Bruins, Stars, Blues, Sharks and Islanders, finishing with 429 goals and 856 points in 1,263 games. He also won the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 1995. Guerin also represented the U.S. in the Olympics in 1988, 2002 and 2006, and played in two World Cups.
In his new role, Guerin will be responsible for working with young prospects throughout the Penguins organization, assisting in the development of players in the minor leagues as well as junior and college hockey.
"Billy has only been retired as a player for one year, so he brings a new and very contemporary perspective to the position," said Penguins General Manager Ray Shero. "He is going to be a big asset to our young prospects throughout the organization, and to our staff."
