The New England Patriots released veteran safety James Sanders on Monday among several roster moves.

Sanders was a fourth-round pick by New England out of Fresno State in the 2005 draft and appeared in 84 regular season games -- 50 starts -- for the Patriots. He has accumulated 300 tackles, eight interceptions and 19 passes defensed throughout his six-year career.

The Patriots also released long snapper Matt Katula, tight end Garrett Mills, cornerback Jonathan Wilhite, defensive linemen Kade Weston and Clay Nurse, wide receivers Tyree Barnes and Darnell Jenkins, defensive back Malcolm Williams, kicker Chris Koepplin and offensive lineman Mark Wetterer.

In addition to the releases, New England signed wide receiver Tiquan Underwood and safety Ross Ventrone.
