Patrick Mahomes, the 2018 NFL MVP and arguably the premier quarterback in the league right now, believed there was a chance he would be wearing green entering the 2017 NFL Draft.

“I definitely thought there was interest there,” Mahomes told reporters on Wednesday as the Chiefs prepared to host the winless Jets. “Whenever you get on those visits, you know that they’re pretty interested in doing their due diligence. I mean, I definitely thought there was interest there, but at the time they drafted a great player in Jamal Adams, and you can’t really argue with that one.”

Jets fans may disagree. Adams, the All-Pro safety whom the Jets selected No. 6 overall, is no longer a Jet and the team may be in the market for a new quarterback with Sam Darnold failing to show much progress in his third year.

The Post’s Brian Costello reported that while Mahomes did visit the Jets, general manager Mike Maccagnan never seriously considered taking him. He had drafted Christian Hackenberg in the second round the year before and was committed to giving him a shot.

The Jets were not the only team to pass on Mahomes. He wasn’t taken until the 10th pick by the Chiefs. The Bears infamously took Mitchell Trubisky second overall, a decision that has haunted them.
