Parker lifts Spurs over Jazz, take 3-0 series lead

Tony Parker poured in 16 of his 27 points in the final quarter, and San Antonio moved to the brink of advancing to the second round of the playoffs with a 102-90 victory over the Utah Jazz.

Tim Duncan tallied 17 points and Danny Green 14 for the top-seeded Spurs, who can complete the sweep of their Western Conference quarterfinal series Monday in Salt Lake City.

Al Jefferson had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Harris also scored 21 for Utah.

Derrick Favors, who had 15 points and 11 rebounds, hit a short jumper to get Utah within 81-76 with 8:25 remaining.

Parker then took over the game. He was 5-of-5 from the field and made all six of his foul shots in the last quarter.

First, the veteran guard stemmed the tide by nailing a short shot. Later, he extended the margin back to double digits by nailing an 18-foot jumper for an 88-78 difference with 6:08 left.

"In the second half we played better basketball. The ball movement was a lot better and we made shots," Parker said.

The Jazz never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

"We just couldn't put it together to get over the hump against these guys," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "They execute very well. We didn't get the energy or a sense of urgency when we had to."

Duncan scored eight in the opening quarter, helping the visitors to a 30-28 edge after 12 minutes.

The lead see-sawed in the second, but Matt Bonner's three in the dying seconds gave the Spurs a 52-50 halftime lead.

Both teams shot poorly in the third quarter, but the Spurs managed to have a flurry to take a 10-point lead late in the period. A layup from Tiago Splitter made it 75-65 with 1:06 left. That bucket capped a 9-2 burst. It was 75-68 going to the fourth.
