The San Diego Padres have recalled pitcher Robbie Erlin from Triple-A Tucson to start Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Erlin, who will be taking the spot of the recently released Edinson Volquez, hasn't pitched for the Padres since getting rocked by Washington to the tune of nine runs in four innings back on July 7.

The 22-year-old Erlin is 1-2 with a 7.15 ERA in six games (four starts) for the Padres this season.

To make room on the roster for Erlin, San Diego optioned right-hander Brad Boxberger to Tucson. He posted an 0-1 record with one save and a 3.07 ERA in 10 relief appearances.
