The San Diego Padres recalled pitcher Andrew Cashner from Double-A San Antonio on Thursday and optioned pitcher Brad Brach to Triple-A Tucson.

Cashner, 25, was sent to San Antonio on June 10 after making his first start for the Padres a day earlier. The right-hander also made 27 relief appearances for the big club this season, going 3-3 with a 3.81 earned run average, 34 strikeouts and 18 walks.

Over parts of three major league seasons with San Diego and the Chicago Cubs, Cashner has compiled a 5-9 mark with a 4.15 ERA.

Brach, 26, has gone 0-1 with a 4.23 earned run average, 31 strikeouts and 22 walks in 27 relief outings for the Padres this season.
