BALTIMORE (Reuters) - The bench strength of the Baltimore Orioles will be put to the test after the American League East club placed regulars Derrek Lee and Brian Roberts on the disabled list on Thursday.
Leadoff hitter Roberts was batting .221 with three homers and 19 runs batted in over 39 games, while Lee was hitting .231 with 14 RBIs and 41 strikeouts in 156 at-bats.
Aiming to bolster their bullpen following Wednesday's 15-inning loss to the New York Yankees, Baltimore recalled lefty Troy Patton and right-hander Chris Jakubauskas from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Roberts and Lee on the roster.
