Few new college football traditions are more notable than Penn State's "white out" game, but this week Ohio State has come up with an alternative for the Nittany Lions' visit to Ohio Stadium.

The Buckeye athletics department is promoting the 8 p.m. (ET) game as "Dark Night at the 'Shoe," and Ohio State will wear an alternate uniform with not only black jerseys (long rumored to be in the works) but also black pants and black helmets.

Naturally, OSU also licensed a variety of merchandise to be sold at the team shop for the game.

While Penn State fans have made Beaver Stadium an intimidating place when they have their annual "white out" (including last year's closer-than-expected overtime victory by Ohio State), it remains to be seen what kind of effect will be seen at Ohio Stadium.

Of course, it's also hard to ignore the possible headlines if the Buckeyes show up in all black then get upset.
