The road to Melvin Gordon's rise in the Heisman Trophy race has been paved by his offensive lineman at No. 14 Wisconsin.

Gordon set a major college record last week against Nebraska after running for 408 yards — in just three quarters. The star junior's highlight reel is full of him hurdling over defenders and stiff-arming would-be tacklers.

Gordon gives a lot of credit to his blockers. The front five and tight ends opened up a lot running room against the Cornhuskers.

Right tackle Rob Havenstein said the line has been getting steadily better ever since a disappointing Week 2 outing for Gordon, when he ran for just 38 yards against Western Illinois.

Wisconsin plays at Iowa on Saturday.
