Notre Dame football announced Wednesday night freshman cornerback Shaun Crawford will miss the 2015 season after tearing an ACL in practice.

The Fighting Irish have experienced players set to start at both cornerback and both safety spots, but Irish Illustrated reports Crawford had been repping as the first-team nickel back.

Without Crawford, a four-star recruit from Lakewood St. Edward near Cleveland, another first-year player from Ohio could be thrust into a larger role: Nick Coleman of Kettering Alter.

The news on Crawford comes less than a week after starting defensive tackle Jarron Jones was lost for the season to a torn MCL.
