North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston needed eight stitches to close a wound on his left hand Friday night late in the Tar Heels' win over Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinals.

Coach Roy Williams says he has "no idea" about Hairston's status for North Carolina's semifinal matchup with Maryland on Saturday.

Hairston needed the stitches to close a wound in the webbing between the middle and ring fingers on his left hand.

He was hurt with about 4 minutes left in the Tar Heels' 83-62 win over the Seminoles when the ball became jammed between his fingers and blood poured onto the court.

Hairston had 21 points when he left. The Tar Heels won six straight late-season games after he was moved into the starting lineup.
