COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State coach Urban Meyer had just finished practice earlier this week when his phone buzzed, signaling he had received a text message.
He glanced down at the screen, chuckled, shook his head and said, "Cheryl Beamer."
Cheryl's husband, Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, will bring his Hokies to Ohio Stadium on Saturday night to meet his friend's eighth-ranked Buckeyes in one of the premier early season games in the nation.
The game, the first between the schools, will pit relatively young teams with high hopes.
After losing 11 times the last two years, Virginia Tech is looking for a noisy upset.
Ohio State, already eliminated from the title picture by many when quarterback Braxton Miller went down, wants to prove it's still a contender.
