No. 23 Creighton focusing on self-improvement and freshening minds, bodies during long layoff

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton coach Greg McDermott says he isn't sure how the layoff between the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and NCAA tournament will affect his team. He's hoping it works to the Bluejays' advantage.

The 23rd-ranked Bluejays (27-7) won the Valley tournament title last Sunday and were among the first five teams to earn one of the 31 automatic NCAA bids.

Valley player of the year Doug McDermott said he senses a different vibe on the team. Last year, the Bluejays were making their first NCAA appearance since 2007, and he said there was anxiety. He said he and his teammates are more "laid back" and know what to expect.

The NCAA bracket will be announced Sunday.
