LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria coach Lars Lagerback has named his final 23-man squad for the World Cup, with Everton striker Victor Anichebe among the seven players he cut.
Nigeria Football Federation spokesman Ademola Olajire told The Associated Press on Monday that Anichebe was among those cut from the Super Eagle's provisional list. Anichebe had returned to action with Everton in the Premier League at the beginning of May.
Lagerback also cut the only two Nigeria-based players on the team — Bassey Akpan and Peter Suswan.
Nigeria will play Argentina, South Korea and Greece in Group B.
