Prior to the start of training camp, Rams' general manager Les Snead acknowledged a new deal with offseason acquisition Nick Foles was "definitely realistic."
Snead remained firm in his belief and inked Foles to a new deal, signing the quarterback to a two-year, $24 million extension on Friday.
The new contract reportedly gives Foles $14 million guaranteed up front.
It wasn't the typical mega-deal generally seen given to quarterbacks, but should Foles perform up to - or beyond - expectations, reworking the contract after one season is not out of the question, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
"It's not the blockbuster extension," Rapoport said via NFL Network. "It's not like they took a huge risk. For Foles, if he plays like the franchise quarterback the Rams think he is - if he gets a Pro Bowl or takes the team to the playoffs - then the final year voids and i"m told the Rams would be willing to re-do it even after one year. It could be a win-win now and into the future."
The Arizona product experienced his best season in 2013 under Chip Kelly, with a touchdown-interception ratio of 27:2. Last season was more of a roller coaster ride, with Foles throwing 10 interceptions in just eight games. His season then ended prematurely after he broke his collarbone.
Aided by a strong defense and a top rookie running back in Todd Gurley, Foles has the pieces around him to succeed.
