The NHL has fined Buffalo Sabres coach Ron Rolston for his role in a brawl that broke out during a preseason game against Toronto on Sunday.

The league punished Rolston on Tuesday for "player selection and team conduct."

The amount of the fine wasn't revealed.

Sabres enforcer John Scott initiated the melee when he attempted to go after Toronto forward Phil Kessel before a faceoff midway through the third period. That prompted a series of fights that involved all 12 players — including both goalies — and led to 211 penalty minutes and three ejections.

The faceoff occurred immediately after Sabres forward Corey Tropp was hurt during a fight with Toronto's Jamie Devane.
