New England's Tom Brady improved to 24-3 against Buffalo, while the Patriots are 27-3 in the past 30 games against their AFC East rivals following a 40-32 victory. ... The seven touchdowns allowed by Chicago in a 48-23 loss to Arizona tied the Bears franchise record. The Bears who had never given up 48 points in a home game, and also tied a club record with 170 penalty yards. ... Adrian Peterson played his first game in Minnesota in 658 days, and finished with 192 total yards in a 26-16 win over Detroit. The last time Peterson took the field in Minnesota was Dec. 1, 2013, also the date of his previous 100-yard game. Out of the league nearly all of last season for the child abuse case against him, Peterson received a pregame standing ovation and a couple of ''AP! AP! AP!'' chants from the fans on a sun-soaked afternoon. He rushed 29 times for 134 yards.

MR. DO-IT-ALL
Arizona rookie running back David Johnson had a 108-yard kickoff-return touchdown and a 13-yard touchdown run in the Cardinals' 48-23 win at Chicago. Johnson, who had a 55-yard touchdown reception last week in his NFL debut, is the first player in NFL history with a rushing TD, receiving TD and kickoff return for a TD in his first two games to begin a career. His kickoff return score is tied for the second-longest in NFL history, and is the longest touchdown in franchise history. Johnson is also the first Cardinals player to have a kickoff-return touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the same game since Hall of Famer Ollie Matson in 1958.

Tampa Bay's Jameis Winston and Cleveland's Johnny Manziel each led their teams to victories Sunday, marking the first time in NFL history that two Heisman-winning quarterbacks each earned his first career win on the same day. Winston, who went to Florida State, helped the Buccaneers beat New Orleans 26-19, while Manziel, who went to Texas A&M, lead Cleveland past Tennessee 28-14.

Carolina's Cam Newton threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns and showed a flair for the dramatic by somersaulting into the end zone on a quarterback draw to lead the Panthers to a 24-17 victory over the Houston Texans. It marked the 25th time in his career that he had both a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game, the second-most in NFL history behind only Steve Young (31). Newton reached 25 such performances in his 64th career game, the fastest in NFL history. Young accomplished it in 146 games.

Marcus Mariota threw two TD passes in the second half of Tennessee's 28-14 loss at Cleveland, but took a pounding in his second NFL game. The No. 2 overall pick was sacked seven times and needed extra treatment on an injured left ankle afterward. Mariota finished 21 of 37 for 257 yards. With the Titans down 14 and needing two scores, Mariota, who recorded a perfect passer's rating last week in his pro debut against Tampa Bay, drove Tennessee inside the Cleveland 20, but was sacked and stripped by defensive end Armonty Bryant.

Philadelphia's DeMarco Murray, the reigning NFL rushing champion, rushed for just 2 yards on 13 carries against his former team as the Eagles fell to Dallas 20-10. Murray had only had 9 yards rushing on eight carries in a 26-24 loss at Atlanta last Monday night.

ST. LOUIS LETDOWN
Last week, the St. Louis Rams beat the two-time reigning NFC champion Seattle Seahawks 34-31 in overtime. But they're only 2-15 since 2005 in regular-season games immediately following a game against Seattle with a 24-10 loss at Washington on Sunday.

Cleveland's Travis Benjamin had three catches for 115 yards with two touchdowns (60 yards and 50 yards) and added a 78-yard punt-return touchdown in the Browns' 28-14 win over Tennessee. He joined St. Louis' Tavon Austin (2013) as the only players in NFL history with a punt return of 75 yards or more for a TD with two TD catches of 50 yards of more in the same game. Benjamin, who had a 54-yard touchdown catch in Week 1, is the first NFL player with four 50-plus-yard touchdowns in the first two games of a season since Jim Brown in 1963.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo broke his left collarbone in the 20-10 win over Philadelphia, spoiling his team's 2-0 start. Romo said tests on Monday will likely determine how long he's out. ... Buffalo safety Aaron Williams went through a series of tests on his neck and head area and was released from a hospital. Williams was hurt after diving to make a tackle in a 40-32 loss to New England. ... Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler left a 48-23 loss against Arizona with an injury. Cutler was stiff-armed while trying to make a tackle on an interception return and landed on his right shoulder, though the team said he left the game because of a hamstring injury. ... San Francisco running back Carlos Hyde was taken out of a 43-18 loss at Pittsburgh because of a head injury, and 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said the rookie was cleared after an evaluation for a concussion. ... Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford had X-rays on his chest and ribs after a 26-16 loss at Minnesota. Stafford was seen shaking his right arm, which was banged up in the opener, in pain at several points through the game.
