The Detroit Lions have selected Brigham Young outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy in the second round of the NFL draft.

Detroit drafted Van Noy 40th overall, moving up five spots in a trade on Friday night with the Seattle Seahawks.

Van Noy finished his college career with 226 tackles and played 13 games each of his four seasons. The 6-foot-3, 243-pound Van Noy made 26 sacks, half coming during a junior season in which he also forced six fumbles. He could have entered the draft last year, but choses to stay in school and play for the Cougars as a senior.

Van Noy is regarded as an athletic, pass-rushing linebacker, just the kind of player the Lions need on defense.
