Newcastle has completed the signing of Gael Bigirimana from Coventry City for an undisclosed fee, it was announced on Friday.

The 18-year-old joins the Magpies on a five-year contract, and he will link up with the club's development squad prior to the start of the new season.

"Gael is a great talent and we would, obviously, have liked him to stay here at Coventry," said Coventry City chief executive Tim Fisher.

"But when the Premier League comes calling - particularly a club the size of Newcastle United - it becomes increasingly difficult to stand in the player's way."

Bigirimana made 28 appearances for Coventry last term and has played for Congo's Under-18 national team.
