The numbers Baker Mayfield is putting up as Oklahoma's new quarterback has made believers of the Sooner faithful.
Mayfield turned in the top passing performance of the week when he completed 32 of 38 passes for 487 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-38 victory over Tulsa on Saturday.
He's hitting on 67.3 percent of his passes since winning the starter's job over incumbent Trevor Knight. He's thrown 10 touchdowns and been intercepted just twice in 110 attempts.
Among Big 12 quarterbacks, only Baylor's Seth Russell is throwing for more than Mayfield's 354 yards a game.
The guy can run, too. He rushed for 69 yards and two TDs against Tulsa, giving him a school-record 572 yards of total offense.
The transfer from Texas Tech has run for at least one touchdown and passed for at least three in each of his three games at Oklahoma.
Some other notable statistical performances:
ACCURACY RECORD: Georgia's Greyson Lambert set an NCAA, SEC and Georgia record by completing 96 percent of his passes against South Carolina. Lambert was 24 for 25 for 330 yards and three touchdowns. Lambert was on target with 20 passes in a row, setting another school record.
REMEMBER RYAN? North Carolina's Ryan Switzer finally broke a punt return for a touchdown again. Two years ago he tied an NCAA record by running back five for TDs. He returned a punt 85 yards for a score in the fourth quarter against Illinois, his first since the 2013 Belk Bowl. Switzer's five returns for 168 yards Saturday broke the school record that had stood since 1951.
TALK ABOUT A MAIN TARGET: Daniel Braverman of Western Michigan already has caught 40 passes, 10 more than the next closest man on the national receiving chart. After catching 13 balls against both Michigan State and Georgia Southern, he hauled in 14 against Murray State. No other Western Michigan receiver has more than 18 receptions.
KEEPING HIM UPRIGHT: Five teams are yet to give up a sack - Air Force, Toledo, Texas Tech, Arkansas and Maryland. All but Maryland ranked among the national leaders in keeping their quarterbacks upright in 2014. The accomplishment is notable for the Terrapins because their QBs were sacked 36 times last season, third-most in the Big Ten.
EXTRA POINTS: LSU's Leonard Fournette is averaging 193.5 yards rushing, making him the national leader by a wide margin. UAB transfer Jordan Howard is second, at 169 yards a game for Indiana. ... Bowling Green's Matt Johnson remains the No. 1 passer in the country after going over 400 yards for a third straight game. He's averaging 452.7 a game with a nation-best 12 TD passes. ... Kansas State's streak of not allowing a touchdown ended at nine quarters when Louisiana Tech crossed the goal line late in the second quarter. It was the Wildcats' longest no-TD streak to open a season since 1945. ... Arizona set school records with 77 points and 792 total yards against FCS Northern Arizona.
