Seville, Spain – Alvaro Negredo scored early and late to lead Sevilla to a 2-1 home win against Athletic Bilbao that moves the club into the top half of La Liga.
Negredo had Sevilla in front in the opening five minutes when he got on the other end of a free kick from Ivan Rakitic and sent a glancing header past Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz.
Bilbao got back into the match with a set piece of its own in the second half when Ibai Gomez delivered a free kick into the area that allowed Carlos Gurpegi to get enough of a touch on the ball to redirect it into the net.
Sevilla's Fernando Navarro picked up a second yellow card in the 73rd minute, but Bilbao's numerical advantage lasted just seven minutes as Aymeric Laporte saw red himself for the visitors 10 minutes from time.
The home side seized the chance to snatch all three points in the 87th minute when Jose Antonio Reyes sent a low cross to the front of goal for Negredo, who knocked it home from close range for his 17th goal of the campaign.
