Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals have recalled pitcher Blake Treinen from Triple-A Syracuse to make his second big league start on Thursday against the Pirates.
In four games (one start) for the Nationals this season, Treinen has allowed four runs -- one earned -- on 18 hits and two walks over 11 2/3 innings.
The 25-year-old righty went 2-0 with a 1.96 earned run average in six starts for Syracuse this season.
To make room for Treinen, the Nationals optioned pitcher Ryan Mattheus to Triple-A Syracuse.
Mattheus has pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings in four appearances for the Nats this season.
