Cincinnati, OH – The Washington Nationals placed right-handed day disabled list Friday with a right shoulder injury.
Mattheus, a 27-year-old rookie, is 2-2 this season with a 2.40 earned run average in 32 games for the Nationals.
He pitched to two batters in the eighth inning of Thursday's 8-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks before leaving the game with tightness in his shoulder.
