The Washington Nationals will place pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain.

Strasburg left Washington's 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on May 31 following the second inning. The move will be retroactive to June 1 and he will be eligible to return from the DL on June 16.

The hard-throwing righty was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, but was unable to do so because of the discomfort, and was instead placed on the disabled list.

Strasburg is 3-5 with a 2.54 earned run average and 73 strikeouts over 74 1/3 innings this season.
