WASHINGTON – Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has taken on-field batting practice for the first time since injuring his right hamstring.
Zimmerman took his swings before Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves.
Zimmerman strained his right hamstring July 22. He is hoping to return before the end of the regular season.
He said a recent MRI offered encouraging results and that's he's been able to run at about 50 to 60 percent of full speed.
Said Zimmerman: "I need to get back in shape hitting-wise. I can't take as many swings as I normally do yet. I'm getting fatigued and sore the next day. ... It's coming along. Everything has been positive and good so far. We're not there yet."
