Edoardo Molinari won more than just a tournament Sunday. The 29-year-old Italian also became one of the three captain's picks for Europe's Ryder Cup team.

In one of the toughest decisions by any captain, Colin Montgomerie also selected three-time major winner Padraig Harrington of Ireland and Luke Donald of England, who is No. 10 in the world.

With what Montgomerie called an excess of riches in European golf, he had to leave off Paul Casey, who is No. 9 in the world rankings, and Justin Rose, who won twice on the PGA Tour this year at the Memorial and the AT&T National.

Molinari, who won the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles on Sunday, will join his brother Francesco on the European team.
