Fiorentina announced on Monday that the club has hired former Catania manager Vincenzo Montella to be its new boss.

Montella left his post at Catania earlier this month after guiding the team to an 11th-place finish in Serie A in his lone season in charge.

The 38-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Roma, but has instead decided to join Fiorentina on an initial two-year contract.

A club statement read: "Fiorentina announces that Vincenzo Montella is the new coach of the first team. Montella has signed a two-year contract with an optional third year."

Fiorentina finished 13th in Serie A last term under former coach Delio Rossi.
