Fontvieille, Monaco (SportsNetwork.com) - AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain shared the spoils on Sunday as the clubs played to a 1-1 draw in a top-two Ligue I clash at the Stade Louis II.
A win for PSG would have seen the defending French champions widen their lead atop the table to eight points, and things got off to a flying start for the capital club when Javier Pastore put them in front after just eight minutes.
Despite falling behind early, Monaco had the better of the play after the intermission and created several scoring opportunities. But they needed some luck to rescue a point as an own goal from PSG defender Thiago Silva in the 73rd minute put the sides back on level terms.
Monaco sent numbers forward in search of a winning goal over the final 16 minutes of play, but it never materialized as the clubs were forced to settle for a point apiece.
A draw does little for the home side, however, as Monaco remains five points behind PSG in the Ligue 1 table through 24 matches.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1 on Sunday, Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring five minutes before the halftime break and Bafetimbi Gomis gave his club a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute.
Nantes got back into the game when Filip Djordjevic scored six minutes from time but was shown a straight red card three minutes later to reduce the hosts to 10 men. Lyon, however, held on to claim an important three points.
Sunday's final Ligue 1 fixture between Bordeaux and Lorient was postponed.
