The MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended Real Salt Lake midfielder Yordany Alvarez three matches and fined him an undisclosed amount on Friday for a rash challenge on Red Bull New York's Tim Cahill.

Alvarez went studs up on Cahill in the fourth minute of last Saturday's 4-3 loss to New York. Cahill played the remainder of the game before being subbed out five minutes from time, but was later diagnosed with a torn PCL in his right knee, which forced him to miss the MLS All-Star game.

The Committee also handed down two other suspensions as Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel was hit with a fine and a one-match ban for violent conduct. The Trinidad and Tobago international kicked out at Vancouver Whitecaps' Jun-Marques Davidson in his team's 1-0 victory last Saturday.

Finally, Colorado Rapids midfielder Hendry Thomas was levied a fine and a one- game suspension for a reckless challenge on Los Angeles Galaxy forward Hector Jimenez.

Alvarez will be eligible to play again on Aug. 21 against the Portland Timbers, while Daniel will miss Philadelphia's match against the Chicago Fire on Saturday at PPL Park. Thomas will miss Colorado's Rocky Mountain Cup clash with Real Salt Lake due to yellow-card accumulation and will serve his one game suspension when the Rapids face Chivas USA on Aug. 11.
