Miller out of giant slalom with injury

VAL D'ISERE, France (Reuters) - American Bode Miller has pulled out of Sunday's World Cup giant slalom in Val d'Isere with a sprained ankle, a U.S. ski team spokesman said.

The former overall World Cup champion sustained the injury, which was not believed to be serious, while playing volleyball in training on Saturday.

Miller was still hoping to take part in next week's races in Val Gardena and Alta Badia, Italy, the spokesman added.

The 32-year-old suggested he was recapturing his best form by placing fifth in a super-combined event and ninth in a super-G over the previous two days.
